FOOTBALL NEWS - Amavarara FC from Queenstown defeated Camdeboo Football Academy from Graaff-Reinet with a score of 1-0 on Saturday 28 October, at the Botanics Sport Grounds.
Amavarara is currently at the top of the Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe League.
During the first half, Camdeboo Academy had several opportunities to score, but they couldn't capitalise on the four of five chances that came their way.
However, when Amavarara got their chance, they made the most of it and scored a goal.
Amavarara's manager, Katlego Mahlala, said both teams were strong and played at a high tempo.
They have been planning for this match for three weeks since their last game against Camdeboo Academy on 7 October. This gave them insight into their playing style and strengths, which they worked on.
Mahlala emphasised the importance of proper preparation and facing stronger teams before entering the league.
Playing against tougher opponents can make it easier when you face teams at your own level, and it helps the team's overall performance.
Vuyisile Yeyana, chairperson of the Camdeboo Local Football Association, praised the Graaff Reinet team saying it was tightly contested, "The match was exciting, fast-paced, and strategic, but Camdeboo could not convert their chances into points," Yeyana said.
