KAROO CRICKET NEWS - Last weekend United CC (Graaff-Reinet) put hosts Willowmore CC on the back foot early in the match to once again secure the title as Central Karoo Cricket Union (CKCU) league champions.
Willowmore won the toss and opted to bat first, but United’s opening bowler, Cay-Marc Green, got an early wicket in the 2nd over.
Wickets kept falling at regular intervals and Willowmore CC were eventually bundled out for just 138 runs.
Green returned to the dugout with 4 wickets. He was well supported by Luther Rogers and Jason Vers who both chipped in with 2 wickets each.
United’s run chase got off to a blistering start with Ezra Gouws and Bjorn Isaacs taking a liking to the Willowmore bowling attack – in particular Gouws, swinging his bat with confidence.
The opening stand reached 100 runs by the 17th over, with Gouws bringing up a well-played 50, which included 5 maximums. A lapse in concentration saw United lose a few quick wickets, but they went on to clinch the match and the title with 6 wickets.
