GRAAFF-REINET NEWS —Don’t let the name of the game fool you.
Mini-cricket is serious business – just ask any of the almost 100 youngsters that had a great time on Saturday morning, March 10, at the Matchpoint Mini Cricket Festival that was held at the Botanics in Graaff-Reinet.
Tens of schools from the district were invited to attend the initiative and at the same time, participate in a morning of fun in the sun. Youngsters from age 5 to 10 took participated.
Apart from motivating children to take part in cricket, the day's play helps children to learn the disciplines of cricket - children not only have fun practising their batting and bowling skills but also develop self-confidence all whilst getting physical exercise!
The day was enjoyed thoroughly by pupils, teachers and parents alike. All present at the event were also treated to refreshments.
The organisers, Leslie and Inalise du Piesanie, are very happy with the outcome of the event and plans are already underway for the next festival to be held in September this year.
Thanks are extended to all the players who participated, their coaches, parents and teachers, Daniel McNaughton, Dieter Bertram, Minette and Jaco Potgieter and Hannelie Pienaar for their contribution to the success of the event.
