CRICKET NEWS - The Stallions Cricket Club faced Klipplaat Cricket Club on Saturday 28 October on the Botanics grounds in Graaff-Reinet.
This 50-over game was initially reduced to 45 overs per side due to rain and a wet outfield.
When play started at 11:00, one over was bowled before the covers had to be used to protect the pitch from a passing shower.
After a 30-minute break, play resumed for 55 minutes. In this period of play another 10 overs were bowled and Stallions were on 51 runs without the loss of a wicket, before the game was interrupted by another heavy shower.
The management and captains of both teams then decided to further reduce the game to 31 overs per side. Donovan Joubert scored a handsome 72 runs, before a flurry of wickets saw the Stallions dismissed
for 161. Lunch was taken and afterwards, Klipplaat came in to bat and attempt to chase down 162 runs.
Disaster struck when the opening bowlers for Stallions each claimed two wickets to have the visitors reeling at eight runs with four wickets down.
A brilliant run-out by Samuel Bantom added to the woes of the Klipplaat batting line-up and the rest of the side succumbed to some accurate bowling for a paltry 48 runs all out.
Jeftune September wrapped up the tail to finish with four wickets. This was an important win for the Stallions as their previous match against Steytlerville was rained out.
The home side will next face Masizakhe on 11 November on the Botanics grounds in Graaff-Reinet.
