CRICKET NEWS - The Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers enforced a credible draw in the Cricket South Africa Colts competition three-day match in Gqeberha last weekend.
The visitors from the Garden Route were, however, outplayed in the one-day match after the three-day match on Sunday and lost by seven wickets.
In the three-day match, centuries by Breyton Plaatjies (112 from 335 balls, 2x6, 14x4) and Keenan Vieira (117 from 162 balls, 4x6, 13x4) enabled the Badgers to post 324 in their first innings.
Grant Esau bagged 4/54 as Eastern Province was restricted to 223 in their first innings.
With a first innings lead of 101 the Badgers continued their momentum and declared their second innings at 193/9 – setting the home team a target of 295 for victory.
Heath Richards contributed 64 for the Badgers in their second innings. EP were at 218/6 at close of play on the final day as the match ended in a draw.
In the one-day match the Badgers were bowled out for 167 with Richards the highest run-scorer with 49. EP (168/3) only needed 26.4 overs to surpass the target for a commanding seven-wicket victory.
