GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — This past Saturday, Union High’s U.13 and U.11 cricket teams hosted Muir College.
The U.13As played a 40 over match. Union batted first and scored an imposing 183/6. Aron Erasmus top scored with 60 and Sisipho Arnols batted patiently for his 37 from 90 deliveries.
Muir struggled against Union's accurate bowling and was all out for 55. Kwande Mhlabeni, Brent Hesselink and JJ Liebenberg each took one wicket. Aron Erasmus topped off a brilliant individual performance by taking 6 wickets for just 7 runs in 8 overs.
Union won by 128 runs.
In the U.11A's match, Muir won the toss and elected to field first in a 50 over match. Union scored 90 runs all out in 37 overs. Camran Swartz (21), Dylan Kivedo (18) and Thokozani Mpanza (13 not out), all contributed well with the bat.
Union made good use of their bowlers and dismissed Muir for 75 runs in 25.3 overs. Shakir Kazi produced excellent figures - 5 for 21 in 7.3 overs.
The highlight of Union's bowling attack was once again the accuracy with which their bowlers bowled. Union's opening bowlers Thokozani Mpanza and Cullen Marais were very economical and applied pressure throughout. Camran Swartz was also part of the wicket takers taking 2 wickets for 8 runs in 2 overs.
Union's top bowlers were Shakir Kazi (5 /21 in 7.3 overs), Thokozani Mpanza (2/14 in 5 overs), Camran Swartz (2 /10 in 2) overs and Cullen Marais (1/15 in 7 overs). Union won the match by 25 runs.
