GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — On Wednesday afternoon, March 8, Union's U.11A cricketers played against Laer Volkskool in a pro twenty match.
Union won the toss and elected to bat first. Union's batsmen continued where they left off against Gill by putting up a solid batting display. Their openers Cameron Swarts and Peter Michaels went one step better scoring 50 runs in 8 overs.
Union then lost two quick wickets but consolidated well when Cullen Marais came in to bat, putting up another 50 run partnership with Cameron Swarts. Union scored 129 for 3 in 20 overs. Special mention must be made of Cameron Swarts who batted through the innings ending on 38 not out.
Union's top batsmen were Cameron Swarts (38 not out), Cullen Marais (32), Peter Michaels (19) and Dylan Kivedo (10).
The Union bowlers complemented each other well and took wickets at regular intervals. All the bowlers contributed well ensuring that Union defended their score and finishing the first part of their season on a high.
TK Mpanza bowled a crucial spell of 0 for 12 in four overs. Among the wicket takers were Shakir Kasi, Cullen Marais, Dylan Kivedo and Cameron Swarts. Union restricted Laer Volkskool to 74 for 7 in their 20 overs.
Union's top bowlers were Cameron Swarts (2 for 9 in 3 overs), Dylan Kivedo (2 for 7 in 2 overs), Cullen Marais (2 for 12 in 4 overs) and Shakir Kasi (1 for 13 in 4 overs).
Union won the match by 55 runs.
The U.11A cricket team won 4 out of 5 matches during the first part of the season.
