NATIONAL NEWS - International business magazine and a global brand, Forbes, has named Durban the new ‘darling’ of South Africa, usurping the title away from Cape Town.
International Travel Writer Joni Sweet said Durban has much more to offer than Cape Town.
“Durban has earned a place in the hearts of travellers for its golden beaches. The bustling harbour city, standing proudly on the sparkling coast of the Indian Ocean, swirls with the cultures and traditions of its diverse residents,” he said.
This comes just as Durban Tourism is about to launch its Durban Summer Love campaign which highlights how Durban fulfils the expectations of visitors and travellers.
Sweet added: “Durban’s distinctive laid back surfer vibe sets the tone for the city, but don’t be fooled-Durbanites understand the art of adventure and know how to have good times. Some of the reasons Durban was named as the darling of South Africa, besides the all-year-round warm weather, was the long stretch of beaches, traditional cuisine, lively markets, world-class hotels and its revitalised arts district.”
Deputy Head for the Tourism Unit, Winile Mtungwa said that the city’s status has been bolstered.
“We are honoured to be called the ‘darling’ of South Africa which indicates that our destination promotion activities and tourism offering are of high impact to address and satisfy the needs of the travellers,” he said.
The city also has global partnerships with the National Geographic Channel and Eurosport where viewers are made aware of Durban’s offerings.
