NATIONAL NEWS - The agonizing process came to a close on Friday, 16 August. It was undertaken because the victims were burned beyond recognition due to the severity of the crash, Mpumalanga News reports.
According to a statement from the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, The families are expected to converge at Middelburg Hospital to receive the remains of their loved ones.
“The meeting is expected to start at 08:00 on Tuesday, August 20. The process will then enable the affected families to finalize funeral arrangements. The mine management will also be in attendance,” reads the statement.
The process of taking DNA samples from family members was conducted by the SAPS’ Victim Identification Center to identify the victims.
The eight were killed during a head-on collision between a truck and a minibus last month on the N11 between Middleburg and Hendrina.

Nine people were killed on impact. The nine were all passengers in the minibus taxi.
