NATIONAL NEWS - The African National Congress (ANC) in Nelson Mandela Bay is taking the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to court over seat allocations in the city council.
The party lost control of the metro to a multi-party government led by the Democratic Alliance (DA).
It failed in its attempt to halt the inaugural council meeting yesterday where Athol Trollip was officially elected mayor.
The party claims the proportional representation seat allocation for the metro is flawed and it had previously raised the matter with the commission.
ANC regional secretary Beza Ntshona explains: "The issue is on the merits of the schedule used for the allocation of seats. It’s a legal matter now which will be handled by the lawyers. They will advising us on the type of court to approach."
