GARDEN ROUTE | KAROO NEWS - A structural fire broke out at La Peron Visskerm, a popular seafood restaurant near the Mossel Bay port, this morning, 12 October.
La Peron's owners, Corné van der Walt and Dietlof Henn, told Mossel Bay Advertiser of their shock from what had happened.
The restaurant was meant to celebrate its 10th year next weekend.
"We are in a state of shock, especially as this happened so close to the December period," said Henn.
Van der Walt said they were alerted about the fire by their security company at about 04:30.
Mossel Bay Fire, Rescue and Disaster Management teams arrived on the scene at 04:44.
Shortly after, at 04:55, fire and rescue services from Great Brak River arrived and assisted in containing the blaze. The fire has since been extinguished.
According to the Mossel Bay Municipality, the roof of the restaurant collapsed during the fire.
The full extent of damages are not known at this stage, but Van der Walt and Henn confirmed that La Peron's kitchen and butchery were the areas affected.
