NATIONAL NEWS - The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) congratulates all learners who have received their 2025 National Senior Certificate (Matric) results.
This achievement marks a significant milestone in your academic journey and, for many, the beginning of your transition into post-school education and training.
As you prepare for the next phase of your studies, NSFAS reaffirms its commitment to supporting eligible students through funding at public universities and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges.
Learners are encouraged to carefully take note of the following important information:
1. Confirm your NSFAS application status
All students who applied for NSFAS funding must log in to the NSFAS student portal at www.nsfas.org.za to check the status of their application.
- If your status reflects “Eligible for a bursary”, your NSFAS funding eligibility for 2026 has been confirmed, and you may proceed with registration at the institution where you have been accepted.
- NSFAS is still processing outstanding documents and appeals. Application statuses may change as this process continues.
2. Acceptance and registration at public institutions
2.1 University acceptance
Universities will start releasing admission offers between 13 and 16 January. Students who have been accepted by a university and confirmed as NSFAS bursary eligible may proceed with registration.
- NSFAS-funded students do not pay registration fees.
- Students must comply with their institution’s registration procedures and deadlines.
2.2 TVET College acceptance
Students accepted at a TVET College and confirmed as NSFAS funding eligible may proceed with registration at their chosen college.
- NSFAS-funded students do not pay registration fees at TVET Colleges.
2.3 Not accepted at a University but still wish to study in 2026
Students who were not accepted at a university but qualify for NSFAS funding are encouraged to consider TVET Colleges, which offer a wide range of accredited programmes.
- Contact your nearest TVET College to enquire about available spaces, as TVET registration and enrolment processes are already underway.
- Once placement is confirmed, the TVET College and NSFAS will proceed with the registration and funding processes in line with approved bursary guidelines.
Information on TVET Colleges is available on the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) website.
Students who need guidance in navigating entry into the Post-School Education and Training (PSET) system are encouraged to use the Central Application Service (CAS).

3. Understanding your NSFAS benefits
NSFAS funding covers approved study-related costs, which may include:
- Tuition fees
- Accredited accommodation or transport
- Learning materials (for university students)
- Living allowances
Details of the funding package will be confirmed once the student’s application is approved and institutional registration has been completed and uploaded to NSFAS.
NSFAS Eligible students have to apply for allowances at the institution, and the institution makes the determination whether you qualify for accommodation or transport, based on your residential address’ distance from the institution, as submitted when applying for space at the institution and the accommodation qualifying criteria.
4. NSFAS loan outcomes
NSFAS loan outcomes will be released by the end of the week of 16 January.
