MOTORING NEWS - Airbags are designed to supplement the seatbelts, not replace them, because, unlike seatbelts, they only work for one impact and are less effective than seatbelts in rollover crashes.
Take maximum advantage of your airbags by not sitting too close to the steering wheel. This allows the airbag to fully inflate before you make contact with it, rather than blowing up in your face.
Ensure that passengers sit correctly too and especially check that they don’t doze off against the doors of a car equipped with side airbags. This could cause serious injuries in a side collision.
