HOFMEYR NEWS - According to Simphiwe Qashani, the brother of Cwenga Qashani, one of the three deceased, friends were celebrating Qashani's birthday at the tavern when she and two of her girlfriends died.
By 23:00 on Christmas day Qashani told her father she was not feeling well, and her brother accompanied her back to the tavern.
He says eventually he ended up assisting to transfer bodies into the ambulance. The two friends were already in the ambulance when he got there, declared dead by ambulance staff.
His sister subsequently also passed away.
The family stay quite a distance from the Tavern.
The brother went back to the tavern the following morning and says the smell of the chemical allegedly sprayed into the tavern was still present.
The person who allegedly sprayed the chemical is in police custody. He was accompanied by a friend. The police needs assistance to find this friend.
The families of the three deceased youths in Hofmeyr have supplied Graaff-Reinet Advertiser with photos of the deceased and granted permission that these be published.
