GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - This past week saw Union Preparatory School's Grade 1 to 4 learners taking to the stage in the school's 2024 adaptation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.
The two-night performance was a resounding success, with both evenings sold out, showcasing the talent and hard work of the little performers.
Narrated by the Thomas Krige and Kirsten Trollip, this classic musical adaptation was a delightful blend of nostalgia and fresh charm. Princess Snow White was beautifully portrayed by Madison Tam, whose grace and talent captured everyone's heart.
Alongside her was the dashing prince, played by Michael Maritz, whose performance added even more romance to the fairy tale.
Lesedi Mphahlele brought a captivating villainy to the stage in her portrayal of the evil queen. The seven dwarves were brilliantly brought to life by Nicaylin Pieterse, Zoey Buys, Gemma Murray, Rosemary Brown, Hannah van der Walt, Achuma Magwentshu and Liyanda Bodlani. Their playful antics and camaraderie were a highlight of the show.

Adding to the whimsical atmosphere was a hilarious pet tortoise, portrayed by Jocelyn King, and an enchanting blue birdie, played by Nareece Wessels. The show followed the traditional storyline, enhanced by an eclectic score filled with toe-tapping tunes that had the audience humming along.
The production also featured talented performances from Taymor Toring as the Magic Mirror, and Uziah Willemse as the Huntsman, whose presence added depth and drama to the narrative. The Huntsman's helpers, Zachary Mostert and Micela Stern, complemented the story perfectly, creating moments of tension and excitement.
One of the standout moments of the evening was Prince Charming's heartfelt rendition of John Denver's "Perhaps Love," performed by Michael Maritz, a performance that melted hearts!
As the curtains fell on this spectacular production, the applause echoed, celebrating the magic of theater and the bright futures of these little learners.
The success of the show is a testament to the dedication of the Union Preparatory School teachers, the learners and everyone involved in bringing this magical production to life.
The entire cast and crew deserve commendation for their hard work and creativity, making it a musical to remember.
