GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Union Preparatory School hosted its annual prize-giving ceremony on 22 October.
Delivering the keynote address, student governing body chairperson Justin Kingwill reflected on the school’s shared values of pride, gratitude and unity.
He praised the collective efforts of learners, parents and teachers in upholding Union’s reputation for excellence across academics, sport and culture.
“Union Preparatory is more than just a school - it’s a family woven into the fabric of Graaff-Reinet,” Kingwill said.
Funds and upgrades
He highlighted the school’s 2025 fundraising achievements, which made possible the complete renewal of the school’s roof - a major milestone made possible through teamwork and community generosity.
Kingwill expressed special thanks to Montego Pet Nutrition for their continued partnership and investment in the school’s development.
Sporting accomplishments also featured prominently in his speech, with Kingwill commending the renewed focus on athletic excellence and the commitment of coaches and learners alike.
Values
Central to his message was the call to uphold strong values.
“Excellence is not just about marks or trophies, but about kindness, honesty, and how we rise after failure,” he reminded learners.
Kingwill also paid tribute to principal Ross Hulleman, the dedicated teaching and support staff, and retiring members Linda Greyling and Donald Kingwill for their years of devoted service.
He closed by reminding learners that true success lies in perseverance and character: “Better human beings build better communities.”
