GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Union High School is incredibly grateful to Shamwari Private Game Reserve and the amazing Gravel Burn team for hosting a school contingent over the long weekend to explore the school’s involvement in the upcoming 2025 Nedbank Gravel Burn.
This unique seven-day 800km gravel stage race weaves through South Africa’s most breathtaking and diverse landscapes, from lush coastal forests to the vast stillness of the Great Karoo, before culminating with a spectacular finish surrounded by Africa’s iconic Big 5.
It was a real privilege to hear the inspiring vision for the Graaff-Reinet leg of the event from founder Kevin Vermaak, who is also the mastermind behind the Cape Epic, and his passionate team, and to connect with some of the remarkable landowners who will be opening their land to host the burn camps.
These include the Zondaghs from Avontuur, Union’s very own Kingwills of Blaauwater, the Jordaans from Cradock, and of course the generous team at Shamwari, who will host the final leg of this extraordinary journey.
Union said it was truly honoured to be part of something so special, an adventure that celebrates both South Africa’s untamed beauty and the spirit of community.
