GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Thieves that struck at the Second Drift sewerage pump station in Graaff-Reinet have left the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality with over R700 000 worth of damage.
The municipality said on Wednesday that, although the pump station is secure, the suspects made off with all the pumps and vandalised a standby generator.
"These incidents are crippling the municipality," said Acting Spokesperson Edwardine Abader. According to her, the theft of the pumps will result in pollution until replaced.
She requested the community to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to the SAPS or municipality.
