ABERDEEN NEWS - An elderly Aberdeen resident who cannot use his legs was delighted last week to receive a brand new wheelchair from Gift of the Givers.
Martin Frazenburg (65) is a patient at the Masakhane Clinic, and when he went to collect his medication last Tuesday, he was asked by the clinic staff to wait. They had noticed the state of his wheelchair, which was held together by pieces of cardboard and plastic bags, and contacted Corene Conradie of Gift of the Givers.
Frazenburg waited patiently with the family member who had taken him to the clinic, knowing nothing about the surprise donation.
Conradie and Edwill Jantjies arrived, and presented Frazenburg with the new wheelchair, as well as a warm blanket, food parcel and some treats. He was overcome by the unexpected generosity of the organisation, and had tears in his eyes as he was helped into his new chair.
Frazenburg explained that he had bought his old wheelchair from the relatives of an elderly lady who had passed away about four years ago, when he lost the use of his legs due to a back injury.
Conradie urges anyone who knows someone in need to contact either their councillor or the local clinic for a referral, as the Gift of the Givers is willing to help.
