GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - At the Summit Wildlife Auction held in Graaff-Reinet on September 30, Haydn Krige of de Dam Capture Nets donated a set of his nets to be part of the first charity lot.
Warrick Barnard, CEO of Woody Cape Wildlife, bought the lot at a generously inflated price.
Summit has donated the proceeds to the Klipplaat Remedial Reading Project.
This project, in the impoverished ex-railway town of Klipplaat, is one of the local charities which Summit supports.
On Tuesday, October 17, Krige and Barnard visited the Brandovale Primary School in Klipplaat, accompanied by Summit members, to see the remedial teachers in action.
Barnard, in a further demonstration of his personal involvement, presented the teachers with a dozen elementary reading books.
Krige, in some encouraging words to the pupils, said that he too had needed the help of a remedial teacher when he was at school.
The Summit members and donors during their visit to the Klipplaat Remedial Reading Project.
Both complimented the teachers Mrs Bruiners and Ms Williams on the excellent work they were doing.
The Headmaster, Mr Jacobs, expressed his appreciation for the work done by the two remedial teachers funded by this project, and for the personal interest shown by Krige and Barnard and the members of Summit.
