KAROO NEWS - Local SSMEs who have tendered for some of the emergency upgrades of Luxolo Intermediate School in Thembalesizwe in Aberdeen, will know within the next week who were awarded contracts.
On Monday 29 May an onsite meeting among stakeholders was held, but due to extreme weather, only the site agent, Kokuhle Matshiqi of the main contractor, Express Builders; the community liaison officer (also a member of the SGB); and the school principal, Christo Frazenburg, managed to attend the meeting.
Tenders are subjected to an adjudication process and results will be announced no later than 14 days after the closing date, Wednesday 31 May.
Matshiqi pointed out that work by the SMMEs would be staggered as needed. Frazenburg stressed that, since this is an emergency project, the main contractor was not obliged to open opportunities for local SMMEs, but yet they did.
The project was approved in February and by end of April the site establishment and site inspection were completed.
The work has since started with building renovation groundwork and the excavation of the new sewer line underway.
