MIDDELBURG NEWS - The Endurance Ride Association of South Africa's (Erasa) annual ride at Moolmanshoek Private Nature Reserve took place on 10 and 11 October, drawing riders from across South Africa, including Johannesburg, KwaZulu-Natal, Cape Town, and the Free State.
Nestled in the picturesque Horseshoe Valley of the Witteberg Mountains, the springtime event offered breathtaking views, lush green pastures, and abundant wildlife.
Riders could choose between 40km and 80km distances, with challenging sandstone slopes testing both horse and rider.
A strong veterinary team ensured horse welfare remained paramount, led by head vet Dr Leon Laubscher, with Dr Izak Hatting and Dr Marzelle Fourie assisting.
Medic Johan de Klerk was also on duty throughout the event.
Most participants rode Arab horses, though a few Appaloosas added variety to the field. Sponsors included Silent Nite Security, Epol, Apex Animal Health, and OVK.
Top awards went to: Ruanda Hurst (Best Child Rider, 80km), Willie Nel (Best Young Rider, 80km), Neil Highams (Standard Weight, 80km), and Chris Cleator (Heavy Weight, 80km).
The coveted Best Condition Horse overall went to Nadia Raimondo on Moolmanshoek Damara.
Moolmanshoek will again host riders for the first endurance event of the 2026 season at the end of January.
