GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The community of Graaff Reinet, along with colleagues and friends, said goodbye to a beloved and dedicated member of their community, Michael Giyose, on 9 March.
He had been working at the Home Affairs offices in Graaff-Reinet for the past 16 years before his passing on 29 February after a short sickbed.
His funeral took place at St Philip's Anglican Church in Masizakhe, which was packed with members of the community coming to bid him farewell and express gratitude for his hard work.
People who had worked with Giyose at the Graaff-Reinet office travelled from as far as Uitenhage, Gqebherha, East London, Cape Town and George to attend the burial service and pay their respects.
His loss was deeply felt, not only by the community but also by his colleagues at Home Affairs.
Marlon Christoffels, who had worked alongside Giyose since the Graaff-Reinet office opened in 2008, spoke fondly of him, describing him as dedicated, loyal and hardworking. Giyose prioritised people and was known for his friendliness and constant smile.
He was always ready to help and had a knack for lifting spirits, even in stressful situations. As a friend, Michael was energetic and always had something to say, bringing humour and lightness to tough times. His funeral showcased his importance to the Graaff-Reinet community and beyond.

Not only did he serve the community in Graaff-Reinet, but also in the surrounding areas, always giving his best. Nosithembile Possa, the manager at Home Affairs, confirmed that Giyose was not just an asset to the community but also a hard worker in the office, always spreading peace and happiness.
He was born on 22 February 1984 attended Isibane Primary School and later Nqweba and Lukhanyo High School for his secondary education before furthering his studies at Cape Technikon in Cape Town.
Before joining Home Affairs, he worked at the Radio Graaff-Reinet, the community radio station.
His daughter, Asenathi, bid him farewell with a heavy heart, expressing the family's shock and sorrow at his sudden departure. Giyose leaves behind his wife, children, friends, and a broader family, all mourning his passing.
