GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The police are on the hunt for thieves who broke into the Graaff-Reinet traffic offices, on the night of either 7 or 8 June, and made off with a safe full of firearms.
Police declined to comment on the matter, but according to a source close to the incident, two security guards were on duty at the time of the burglary. For safety and investigation reasons, the firm’s name is withheld from publication.
The owner of the firm declined to comment, but did not deny the incident.
An eyewitness said on 8 June that the empty safe was found in Kroonvale, but a visit to the scene and further inquiries by the Advertiser came to a dead-end.
“We have no comment at this stage,” said acting municipal spokesperson, Edwardine Abader. Information available to the Advertiser suggests that the matter will be discussed at a police management meeting this morning, 9 June.
This is a developing story.
