GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - As the festive season gets underway, the Western Cape Department of Infrastructure (DOI) will continue its important work of maintaining and expanding the province’s renowned road network.
Contractors working on Western Cape Department of Infrastructure road construction projects are taking a well-deserved break from 12 December to 12 January.
Motorists should note that some road closures will be in effect during this period and should take this into account when travelling.
• The Montagu Pass is completely closed to all traffic.
• The Franschhoek Pass (R45/ MR191) is open with a section where one lane of traffic can proceed when it is safe to do so.
• There is a stop-and-go in place on the Klapmuts/ Simondium Road (MR205).
• There is a stop-and-go in place on the Hemel-en-Aarde Road (MR269).
• There are two stop-and-go zones on the R303 between Ceres and Op-die-Berg.
• There is a full road closure on DR1309 near the R406 to Greyton. Detour signage is in place.
• The N12 between Oudtshoorn and George will be open during the contractor’s break, but motorists are advised to proceed with caution because this road is an active construction site.
“Road maintenance and expansion projects are a vital part of keeping our road network in shape and responding to transport needs of our residents. Motorists are advised to treat all roadworks as active construction sites, even if no construction is currently underway. For your own safety and the safety of others, please comply with all speed reduction signs, road closure signs, and stop and go arrangements,” said Provincial Minister of Infrastructure Tertuis Simmers.
