GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The bail application of a local school principal who stands accused of rape, has been postponed for the second time.
According to a spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, Luxolo Tyali, the principal stands accused of three counts of rape and additional charges related to the sexual grooming of minors.
The charges pertain to a minor learner attending his school.
The accused first appeared in court for his bail application on Monday 10 February, where it was remanded to Friday 21 February.
On Friday, it was again remanded to 4 March.
According to Tyali, proceedings will be held in camera, which means that it will be conducted privately, without any member of the public or media present.
A case involving a minor is automatically heard in camera as required by Section 153 of the Criminal Procedure Act, 1977 and the Children's Act, 2005 to protect the minor's identity, privacy and emotional well-being, and to prevent secondary trauma.
This is aimed at ensuring that sensitive evidence is handled discreetly while justice is served.
