SOMERSET EAST NEWS - Children living in the Blue Crane municipal area are in for a puppet show pleasure in the near future after a special puppeteering workshop was held from 28 to 30 October.
The workshop, held in Somerset East, was attended by 44 representatives from the Jakes Gerwel Foundation Blue Crane Bookclub team, as well as church, school and and community workers from Pearston, Somerset East, Cookhouse, Witmos Farm and Bracefield Farm.
The representatives were shown how to build puppet stages (booths) using cardboard boxes and how to make puppets.
A number of stories they could produce as puppet shows were also handed out by the Jakes Gerwel foundation.
The newly trained and inspired representatives are to complete their booths and present puppet shows at their respective institutions.
The workshop was organised by Nompumelelo Sokoyi, founder and chairperson of the Soqaqamba Home and representative of the Jakes Gerwel Foundation in the Blue Crane Municipality, and was financed by the Jakes Gerwel Foundation.
“We derive our pleasure from the smiles on the faces of the learners whom we deliver the show to,” said Sokoyi, a well-known community developer and spokesperson for the Pearston Community.
