JANSENVILLE NEWS - Motorists are advised to avoid the R75 towards Jansenville due to ongoing protest action, which started at about 05:00 this morning, Tuesday 17 June.
Trucks have been used to block the R75 at both entrances to town, as well as the R339 to Klipplaat, and the protesters have taken the keys.
Authorities are working to resolve the situation.
The police and traffic officers are on-site, monitoring the situation and diverting traffic to alternative routes.
Some residents indicated that the protest action is the result of some discontent with the progress of the investigation into the murder of a 53-year-old Jansenville resident, Piet Tieman, whose body was found in town with gunshot wounds on 18 May.
However, this could not be confirmed, since, according to Captain Marius McCarthy, the Sarah Baartman District’s police spokesperson, they still have to establish why the roads have been blocked.
