GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Both Union Preparatory School and Laer Volkskool recently had donation drives for the Graaff-Reinet Animal Welfare Society (Graws) and managed to collect loads of treats, food and blankets for the animals.
Graws expressed their gratitude towards every parent and learner who donated, and towards the Laer Volkskool learners who also visited the kennels to give the animals some much-needed love and attention.
“It is so special that the schools are doing this for us,” says Carlin Raath, part-time manager of Graws. “The amount of love that these learners had in their eyes when they petted the animals was absolutely amazing. We would love to have more visits like these to the kennels because it really means so much to us. The dogs obviously loved the treats that they were given – it was like pudding for them,” she said
Graws is still in need of additional blankets to keep the animals warm during the winter and more food donations are always welcome. Those who would like to make a donation of any kind can contact Raath on 063 559 5823.
Graws extends a special thank you to The Junkman, Botha’s Garage, Pick n Pay, Engen Riverside, Jason Ray, Karoo Ranching, PSG, Tyremart, Derek Light Attorneys, Karoo Health Care doctors group, and all the individuals who support them on a regular basis. “We sincerely appreciate all the support that we are receiving,” says Raath. “Graaff-Reinet is a very good example of community-driven animal welfare as it certainly is a community effort and not a one-man show.”
