GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Nine suspects were put behind bars after a district police intervention in Makhanda, Alicedale, Port Alfred, Alexandria, Kirkwood and Addo over the past weekend.
According to a media statement issued by the office of the Provincial Commissioner in the Eastern Cape, seven suspects aged between 22 and 59 were arrested for dealing in drugs and possession of drugs.
Two of those arrested were wanted for cases of malicious damage to property, and another for robbery and stock theft.
The police executed search warrants at identified addresses and recovered drugs with an estimated street value of R45 000 during the operation.
The suspects are due to appear in different magistrate's courts when charged.
The Sarah Baartman District Commissioner, Major General Zolani Xawuka, applauded the members involved for following up on information gathered.
"We will keep on improving our intelligence and encourage the communities to come forward with information that can assist in eradicating drugs from our streets," Xawuka said.
