KAROO NEWS - The Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality (DBNLM) recently organised a vibrant and lively Fun Walk to bring employees from various departments together in support of a noble cause.
The event, which took place on 27 October, saw participants setting off from the Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe Memorial Building.
The route took them through Church Street, Parsonage Street, and Caledon Street and concluded at the Botanics Sport Ground, where they were warmly welcomed by Gewnynne Hermanus, Director of Community Services.
Mayor Willem Safers took the opportunity to highlight the event's purpose, emphasising its role in celebrating cancer survivors and encouraging caregivers to persevere in their support for those in the fight against cancer.
The day's programme featured a variety of activities, including aerobics, sakkie-sakkie dancing, egg races, karaoke and water games.
A standout feature was the potjie-cook-off competition, which involved several departments, the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality (represented by Infrastructure), Department of Labour and Employment, SANParks, Legal Aid, Sassa and the East Cape Midlands TVET College.
The adjudication was based on six criteria elements, including presentation, sales, team spirit, display, taste and originality.
The winners of this competition were the Department of Employment and Labour in first place, Camdeboo SANParks in second place, and DBNLM Infrastructure in third place.
The winners received a trophy donated by Metropolitan. This charitable event, known as the DBNLM Workers' Colourful Fun Walk for Cancer, is part of the municipality's Wellness programme. The initiative began last year, where they successfully raised R10 000 for Camdeboo Hospice. Organisers aim to double or even triple this amount this year.
