KAROO NEWS - The community of Masizakhe bade farewell to Alex Mac Donald, retired principal of Isibane Primary farewell on Friday 5 May at the Masizakhe Community Hall. Mac Donald, nicknamed "Maccie", was head of the school for 22 years.
His colleague, Timmy Lisa describes him as approachable, softhearted and an easy person to work with.

Mac Donald enjoyed working at Isibane Primary school, especially the eagerness of the teachers to work and the learners to learn. He appreciated the work and cooperation of the parents who left him to get on with his job. "Teaching is teaching and has nothing to do with race. I'm a teacher, and if you are a teacher you can teach anywhere, anytime, any place."
He said some of the poorest parents, in keeping with the school's name "Isibane", turned out to be shining lights.
The new principal, Xoliswa Tono-Nazo who took the baton from Mac Donald in January 2023 said when she got to Isibane, she found supportive parents and teachers who understand the quality of teaching and learning. "Thank you, sir. Also for serving not only the school, but also the community for all these years.
Principals at the function were Belinda Botha of Union Prep, Barbara Vaaltyn of Lettie De Klerk in Nieu-Bethesda, Kevin Koeberg of Thembalesizwe Primary, Graaff-Reinet Primary, Basil Jacobs of Lingcom Primary, Richard Swartz of Narsingstraat Primary, Noleen Fourie of Ryneveld Primary, Alex Mdingi of Nqweba Secondary school and Douglas Meyer of Spandau Secondary. The Graaff-Reinet Department of Education was represented by Nomandla Singeni, Mxolisi Yoyo and Zulelwa Jeyi.
Mac Donald was presented with gifts from the school and parents.
