KAROO NEWS - The man who is accused of the murder of Karin Marais on 8 June 2021, appeared in the regional court in Graaff-Reinet on Monday 5 June. Wayne Meintjies (28) is also accused of committing several property crimes on the same day.
Marais sustained a fatal stab wound during an encounter with a burglar at her house in Somerset Street, Graaff-Reinet.
Regional magistrate Tobie Gerber is the presiding officer in this case. The accused is represented by Legal Aid South Africa.
On Monday, state prosecutor Driaan Beukes called several witnesses to testify to the property crimes that were allegedly committed on the same morning of the murder.
Following the examination in chief, the witnesses were cross-examined by the defense.
The case is postponed to 10 July for further testimony because one of the witnesses is abroad and will only return to South Africa in July.
