ABERDEEN NEWS — A 43-year-old man, Johannes Baartman Tsetse from Noni Street, Thembalesizwe, was sentenced on November 15 in the Grahamstown High Court to 20 years imprisonment for murder.
He had previous convictions for assault.
The incident happened on January 1 this year at about 18:30 in Noni Street, Thembalesizwe . Baartman stabbed 48-year-old Nondyebo Joan Magewu several times with a knife- she passed away on the scene. She passed away with multiple stab wounds to her body and arms.
Baartman and Megewu had previously been in a relationship, but Magewu obtained a protection order against Baartman in December 2016 after a history of verbal and physical violence against her. He was ordered to move out of the house. On the day of the incident, witnesses saw Magewu running from her house while Baartman chased after her with a knife.
The solid investigation by Cst Elrado Kameel of Aberdeen Detective Service led to the successful conviction and sentence in this case.
