GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Preventative measures are in place at Midland Hospital in Graaff-Reinet, to ensure that essential medical care continues to run its course, despite Covid-19.
This according to Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Marie de Vos, who said the hospital is safe for locals to pick up their monthly prescriptions, and to receive medical attention, other than Covid-19 tests and treatments.
De Vos explained that the Department of Health set up a furnished tent outside the hospital, where all patients visiting the hospital undergo a Covid-19 screening, before they are allowed to retrieve their files and visit the doctor, pharmacy or other departments within the hospital. After 4pm, the pre-screening will be done at the door.
"If at the pre-screening a visitor shows suspected signs of Covid-19, a full test will be done and the patient will be placed under self-isolation. The necessary counselling is also in place to deal with such cases," De Vos explained.
Within the hospital, the personnel are doing their utmost best to assure safe distancing, sanitising and regular decontamination of the hospital.
"People don't have to be scared to visit the hospital," De Vos added.
She said she knows people are aware of the fight against Covid-19 at roadblocks, such as the Aberdeen roadblock, where thousands of vehicles move between the Western and Eastern Cape. "We've got nothing to do with that roadblock," she concluded.
