The impact of this publication cannot be overstated, and we recognise the deep emotional connection that so many have with it.
Graaff-Reinet Advertiser may be changing, but its spirit and purpose will live on through its digital platform.

Previous editor Sonia Wahl (2022 - 2024):
"With time comes change and change can sometimes be hard to digest. It is with a sad heart that I heard that the print edition of Graaff-Reinet Advertiser will be closing its doors at the end of the month.
The Advertiser has been a great learning curve in my career, for which I will be forever thankful. To a great legend, we say goodbye, but not farewell.
To Graaff-Reinet Advertiser online, may you go from strength to strength, growing and serving the community like you have done for so many decades in print. My very best wishes."
Previous editor Hugo Redelinghuys (2021 - 2022):
For 165 years Graaff-Reinet Advertiser has played a critical role in informing, educating and entertaining the community.
I was privileged to have edited the paper for just over a year. Living and working in one of South Africa's most beautiful towns and being in contact with genuine, caring people on a daily basis, was one of the highlights of my career in journalism.
Graaff-Reinet and the weekly print edition of the Advertiser will remain etched in my memory for ever, while I take comfort from the knowledge that www.graaffreinetadvertiser.com will continue to play a vital role in the Karoo.
Former editor Arthur Knott-Craig (1959 - 2000):
"It is a sad day for Graaff-Reinet, but I will follow the Advertiser online and wish the publication every success."
Paper trail
4 April 1860 to 27 February 2025
In April Graaff-Reinet Advertiser will celebrate its 165th birthday!
The publication's long history started when John Powell purchased the Midland Province Banner (founded in 1857) from G Rook in April 1860.
Powell renamed the newspaper Graaff-Reinet Advertiser and more than a century and a half later, the Advertiser is still a trusted, local news source.
Thank you all!
A lot has changed in 165 years, and for many years our proudly local news reports and much more have been available online as well.
Breaking news unfolds on our website, readers share their thoughts on Facebook and Twitter, and our communities' stories are told in photographs on Instagram.
Graaff-Reinet Advertiser's success would be impossible without its loyal readers.
From the locals who enjoy the weekly printed edition, to the loyal digital supporters - we appreciate each and every one of you.
To our readers across the Karoo, thank you.
We look forward to serving our communities for many years to come.
