JANSENVILLE NEWS - Seventeen-year-old Endinako Jola has been selected to represent South Africa at the Confederation of School Sport Associations of Southern Africa (Cossasa) Games, which will be held in Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) from 23 to 29 August.
The Cossasa Games are annual sporting events for school-aged athletes from Southern African countries that serve as key platforms for promoting sport development and identifying young talent across the region.
Jola’s selection follows his strong performance at the National Schools Athletics Championships, held in Pietermaritzburg in April.
On the first day of the national championships, he secured third place in the 1 500m semi-final and advanced to the final, where he finished second with a time of 4:25, claiming a silver medal.
The following day, he earned a well-deserved gold medal in the 3 000m after confidently securing first place with a record-breaking time of 8:53.
Jola is a Grade 10 learner at Gcinubuzwe Combined School in Jansenville.
He is a dedicated member of the #Sinalithemba Athletics Club and is coached by his father, Luthando Sikiwe, who also trains the school’s athletics team.
What makes his success even more impressive is that only two quintile 3 schools in the entire Sarah Baartman District qualified to participate in the national championships.
