GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Graaff-Reinet based Head of Protection Services in the DBNLM district, Dennis Douglas Fortuin, appeared in the Regional Court in Nxuba – previously Cradock – last week Monday and Tuesday, 22-23 July on a charge of corruption and for contravening the National Road Traffic Act.
He is accused of issuing a code 14 driver’s license to Ncediwe Stemele, who did not undergo a practical test. Stemele is the second accused in the matter.
Regional Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, Luxolo Tyali, confirmed that the offence was committed at the time when Fortuin was a traffic officer in Cradock.
According to Tyali the case is heard by JJ Claasen, a Regional Magistrate based in Gqeberha who periodically presides over cases in Nxuba, while Lloyd Seyibokwe is acting on behalf of the prosecution.
The case was postponed to September for closing arguments and possible judgement.
