KAROO NEWS - A Women's Day event was organised by the male members of the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality management team last week in honour of the women of the municipality.
At the Botanics Sport Grounds the message of the day was, "Strength and honour are her clothing. She is confident about the future", from Proverbs 31: 25.
Each female attendee was welcomed with a flower.
Beautiful songs such as Brenda Fassie's Weekend special and Caiphus Semenya's Bayakhala oomama were played.
The programme was led by Melvis Pietersen and guests were welcomed by Speaker Cheslin Felix and Jimmy Joubert.
Mayor Willem Safers said women are the pillars of our community. "They are the anchors of the family, the backbone of our nation.
"We can stand on your shoulders because you are as strong as giants, we honour the women for being wise, caring, loving and selfless.
"They raised us, nurtured us and also led the country to freedom. This month we are reminded of the incidents of 1956 where the women took a stand against the apartheid government.
"Today I wish you a day filled with love, appreciation and empowerment."
At the DBNLM Women's Day event are Dawn Klaasen, Eunice Kekana, Zoleka Kali, Nelly Oliphant and Belinda Solomon.
