GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Graaff-Reinet Animal Welfare Society's (Graws) doors will remain closed until they can get enough financial support to maintain a running organisation.
"Unfortunately, our financial situation has not improved, and we are still struggling to secure the necessary funds to provide essential services to the community," said director John Biggs and member Wessel Landman.
"Despite these challenges, we continue to provide critical care and support to serious cases of animal abuse and neglect.
However, with only R3 000 in our account, we are severely limited in our ability to provide comprehensive services.
This amount is barely sufficient to treat two animals with a disease like parvovirus, and it falls short of covering operational costs, including salaries and veterinary expenses," the team said.
They said it is disheartening that, despite their best efforts, they have not received the financial support needed to sustain the organisation.
"As a result, we are unable to provide the level of service that our community deserves. We urge local businesses and individuals to consider supporting our cause, as their contributions are crucial in enabling us to continue providing vital services."
On a positive note, they have successfully rehomed five surrendered animals in recent weeks, and are eager to find forever homes for the two remaining puppies in their care.
"We also continue to offer essential services, including dipping days every Tuesday, animal care at our kennels, and dog boarding facilities."
If you are interested in learning more about the organisation or would like to discuss ways in which you can support them, please contact them.
Landman and Biggs can be reached on email at grawsoffice@gmail.com.
"We appeal to the community to rally behind us and support our efforts to care for the most vulnerable members of our society.
Together, we can make a difference and provide a brighter future for the animals in our care."
