GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - After another devastating burglary on 6 December, the management of the animal welfare association, Graws, was left with no choice but to temporarily close their doors. The thugs stole essential items, including water pipes, cameras, fridges and even the sink.
Graws Director Wessel Landman says they are deeply grateful for the donations and support from the community.
"However, with monthly donations of about R6 000, we're struggling to keep up with the R30 000 needed to operate the welfare organisation. The constant repairs and maintenance have added to our financial burden."
Graws' outstanding accounts include a veterinary bill of R22 000 and a municipal account of R15 000.
"We're facing significant financial challenges, and the vandalism and theft have become unsustainable. We hope to reopen in the new year with a stable financial foundation," Landman says.
"We appreciate the support we've received so far, whether it's financial aid or food. Your help has been invaluable, and we're grateful for your kindness."
Landman says to reopen in the new year, they urgently need monthly financial donations. "If you're able to support us, please come forward. We can't do it without you."
"Our animals will be relocated to other animal welfare organisations and the community is encouraged to adopt a pet before 31 December."
