GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Wednesday 15 January marked a momentous occasion for Grade 1 learners all over South Africa as they embarked on their 12-year journey to the end goal: a matric certificate.
At Union Preparatory School and Laer Volkskool in Graaff-Reinet, 61 eager Grade 1s at Union and 47 at Volkskool stepped into their classrooms for the very first time to start their educational journey.
Also at Thembalesizwe Primary School and Narsingstraat Primêr, Grade 1 learners gathered for this exciting start of their 12 years at school.
Daleview Primary School in Steytlerville welcomed 63 Grade R learners and 85 Grade 1 learners.
Despite the clouds and rain overhead, the excitement among the youngsters were palpable.
The new learners jumped straight in, quickly getting to work, familiarising themselves with their new environment and getting to know their classmates.
Teachers welcomed the bright-eyed little ones with open arms, guiding them gently through the beginnings of their 12-year academic adventure.
