GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Areas in Graaff-Reinet will be without water today (3 February), due to maintenance to a vandalised pipeline.
According to a statement by the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality, the pipeline supplies water to Asherville, Kroonvale, Santaville and Selfbou.
"The maintenance will result in no water to those areas until repairs are finalised," the statement read. These repairs are expected to be completed today.
The municipality claimed last week that a concrete slab covering the pipeline was illegally opened and damaged, causing thousands of litres of water to go to waste.
"This is one of the reasons why reservoir levels remain low, and replacement of this pipeline must occur," the statement read.
It is unclear at this stage whether water trucks have been sent to these areas. Graaff-Reinet is expected to see temperatures as high as 38° C today.
