GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - In what rings in a new chapter of service for Graaff-Reinet, the local tourism office shared the exciting news that a Lions Club is being established in Graaff-Reinet.
“As we step into 2026, exciting conversations have been taking place behind the scenes since October 2025 - all focused on strengthening our community and giving back where it matters most,” said Aljoné Meyer, tourism liaison officer and manager of Graaff-Reinet Tourism.
She said this decision was made after discussions with Lions Club International on 8 January.
A small introductory information session was hosted last week to begin laying the groundwork.
Several local NPOs were invited to ensure that the most pressing community needs were represented from the outset, keeping community upliftment at the heart of the initiative.
What will the Lions Club focus on?
The proposed Graaff-Reinet Lions Club will work across key pillars that directly impact our town, including:
- Vision and diabetes awareness
- Hunger relief
- Environmental protection
- Childhood cancer support
Meyer said that foundational members and volunteers will be needed from the Graaff-Reinet community.
“With the initial logistics now in place, the doors are open for interested individuals to get involved.
Passionate community members are invited to step forward as foundational members or volunteers to help shape and guide this new chapter,” she said.
Interested parties are invited to please contact the Graaff-Reinet Tourism Office on 049 892 4248 for more information or to receive the information pack.
Graaff-Reinet Tourism says that it is inspiring to see meaningful initiatives like this take root - a positive step forward as they begin the year with purpose, collaboration and care for the community.
