GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Over the recent school holidays, siblings Kgothatso and Paballo Mabapa, learners at Union Preparatory School in Graaff-Reinet, travelled to Alice to compete in the inter-regional chess tournament, where they qualified to participate in the EC closed trials.
Between them, they have already earned more than 10 medals at various chess events across the province - from Makhanda to Jeffrey's Bay and Graaff-Reinet.
These two are definitely becoming a chess force to be reckoned with.
They are also among the six learners from Union Preparatory School selected to represent the Sarah Baartman chess teams.
Union Preparatory School is especially proud of young Kgothatso, who, although only U8, competes in the U10 age group, due to the lack of players in his division, and is excelling beyond his years.
This young learner is displaying true Union spirit and enjoys every game of chess.
