CRADOCK NEWS - Condolences have been streaming in on various social media platforms and rugby related pages after news of the death of former rugby player, Tommie Webb (54) and his wife, Crolin (53), broke earlier this week.
The Webbs, who were from Cradock, died in a motorcycle accident on Saturday 25 January just outside Willowmore.
During the 1990s and early 2000s Tommie played for the Bulls, Stormers and Lions and SWD - a physical powerhouse and simply unstoppable.
"My heart breaks into a million little pieces as I write this farewell message in honour of the two greatest people I ever knew: my mother and father, Tommie and Crolin Webb," their daughter, Tome posted on social media.
"I could not have asked for better parents, nor could I have wished for better or more loving role models than those two incredible human beings. I was so excited to see you [Tommie and Crolin] in April so that you could meet your second grandson, whom we decided to name after my dad, Tommie.
"I cannot explain how much I will miss the two of you every single day of my life on this earth! I will tell my children stories about their grandma and grandad. They will grow up knowing who you are - I promise," her post continues.
Graaff-Reinet Advertiser sister publication, George Herald, reached out to Tome and her brother Cullen, but due to their grief and shock, they declined to comment.
Former Springbok Heyneke Meyer described Tommie as an incredible player, man and legend. "Rest in peace. Strength to the family. May you find courage."
Anton Leonard also wrote that Webb was a "legend" and someone you could always rely on. Many other comments of condolences and shock followed posts on social media.
According to the police, Willowmore police officers arrived at the accident scene on the N9 outside the town at about 18:20 on Saturday and found the couple some distance from their motorcycle, receiving medical treatment.
Eyewitnesses told the police that the motorcycle driver (Tommie) had lost control of the bike and that it then hit a ditch.
The couple was transported to a hospital by EMS emergency services, where they later succumbed to their injuries.
