GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - For those celebrating Easter in Graaff-Reinet over the weekend, it was a quiet celebration, as the nationwide lockdown continues.
Churches once full of visitors over Easter were empty, as congregations gathered on social media or watched sermons online instead to practice social distancing.
Beautiful church bells in celebration of Easter Sunday, however, still echoed in the Karoo town.
Outside the Trinity Methodist Church, Easter was celebrated with a decorated cross, which symbolised different phases on different days of the Easter weekend.
"The display was as a silent witness and telling the story of Jesus Christ's suffering, death and resurrection, as remembered and celebrated by His followers during Easter," said Mariana Evans on behalf of the church.
"Although we could not gather as church families, each one of us could take time out to ponder upon God's message of love and salvation offered to all mankind," Evans added.
"It also represents a message of hope, so needed by us during this time in South Africa."
