KAROO NEWS - The completion of the first phase of the building project at Vuyani Safe Haven in Graaff-Reinet, has been made possible by the support of donors and partners over the past four years.
Riana van der Ahee, public relations manager of the haven, thanked architect Peter Whitlock and Sean Jacobs and his dedicated team for their work.
"We also extend our sincere gratitude to the Montego Pet Nutrition team, led by Kallie Venter, for their invaluable assistance with the electrical installation. Your generosity and commitment have made this dream a reality. We are deeply grateful," said Van der Ahee.
She stressed that the transformation wouldn't have been possible without the dedication of the Vuyani team and the generous support of their donors.

- Flooring - The old timber flooring has been replaced with a tiled concrete floor.
- Office - New partitioning was installed right up to the ceiling, along with brand-new doors. The old windows have been renovated and painted.
- Ceilings - The ceilings have been replaced, complete with insulation material and a fresh coat of paint.
- Paint - All internal walls have been painted, giving the entire space a clean and vibrant look.
- Doors - Existing doors have been serviced and painted.
- Electricity - The electrical systems have been upgraded.
Support needed for phase two
"We are excited to announce that we have already received significant donations towards the intermediate phase of our building project, thanks to the incredible advocacy of Sarah Tompkins and her team at Samara Karoo Game Reserve, along with the generous support of Lathallan School, St Galle Tablat Evangelische Church in Switzerland, and other donors," said Van der Ahee.
"While this is a great start, we still need substantial funds to move forward. The intermediate phase is critical - it involves relocating the kitchen, laundry, and scullery to a new building at the back of the premises, which will adjoin the existing structure. This relocation will create much-needed space for a new bathroom facility and the conversion of the current storeroom into an additional bedroom," she said.
