CRADOCK NEWS - A Cradock resident, who was tested positive for Covid-19 in Komani and put under self-isolation there, had to be hospitalised in Cradock, her hometown, after a traumatic experience in Komani.
According to Siyanda Manana, a spokesperson for the Eastern Cape Departement of Health, the patient was stigmatised for having the virus.
“The patient was mocked and traumatised at the place of isolation in Komani. She was called names from people passing the house,” said Manana.
The patient asked to be taken back to Cradock, after which the Eastern Cape Health Department consulted with the Cradock Hospital’s management.
According to Manana, it was decided that it was in the woman’s best interest if she was hospitalised in Cradock instead, to protect her from being further traumatised.
Manana did not want to disclose any dates of tests or when the patient was transferred.
