KAROO NEWS - As a preventive measure to stop the spread of the covid-19 virus, the Dr Beyers Naudé Municipality (DBNLM) closed all libraries. Community halls will also be closed for functions until further notice.
Locals are also advised not to visit municipal buildings, but call the municipal call centre instead.
According to Edwardine Abader, acting municipal spokesperson, these decisions were made as per the memorandum received from the Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture.
According to Abader, the Municipal Manager, Eddie Rankwana, also identified possible quarantine sites, to be resourced by the Department of Health. The municipality will make these sites public once approval is received from the Department of Health.
"In line with the national safety precautions against the spread of covid-19, the DBNLM would like to discourage residents from visiting municipal buildings," Abader added.
Residents are encouraged to make use of the municipal call centre (049 807 5801/02/03) for service delivery related queries, and the municipal electronic system to pay their accounts.
Other contact numbers for further information on covid-19 include the National Institute for Communicable Diseases' 24-hour hotline (082 883 9920) and the Eastern Cape Department of Health's 24-hour call centre (080 003 2346).
